Sports Inclusion Officer

Deliver school sports clinics, gala days and sport development programs that bring inclusive sport to schools and community groups across NSW. Teachers and club partners keep duty of care for their own students and members, so your core job is running excellent, inclusive sport sessions.

Position purpose

The Sports Inclusion Officer delivers school sports clinics, gala days and sport development programs that bring inclusive sport to schools and community groups across NSW.

Working with teachers, coaches and club partners who hold primary duty of care for their own students or members, the Officer's core function is running excellent, inclusive sport sessions, not individualised disability support. Over time this role is expected to grow beyond school clinics into broader sport development and pathway programs.

About Sports 4 All and 4titude

Sports 4 All is the sport delivery arm of 4titude, a not-for-profit and registered charity. 4titude is a registered NDIS provider and is considered the NSW peak sporting body promoting sports inclusion, creating sporting pathways for people with disability. Our mission is to provide and promote opportunities, support, interventions, training and self-challenging pursuits for people who have unique and individual needs.

Our values

  • Heart: a passion for the rights of everyone to be included, treating everyone with kindness and compassion.
  • Integrity: taking ownership and responsibility for our decisions, and holding each other accountable to the highest standards.
  • Partnering: bringing people together to strive for a common goal.
  • Empowerment: listening, appreciating and recognising each other, and enabling people to follow their own path.

Key accountabilities and responsibilities

Program delivery and energy

  • Plan and deliver high-energy, inclusive school sports clinics, gala days and sport development sessions.
  • Bring programs together on the day: set the tone, run warm-ups, games, skills stations and competition formats.
  • Adapt activities in real time to include participants of different abilities, ages and skill levels.
  • Work as part of a rostered team of Officers and coaches to deliver larger clinics and events.

Partnerships and delivery

  • Work alongside teachers, school staff and sporting club partners, who retain duty of care for their own students/members during clinics.
  • Where a specific NDIS participant is embedded in a session with a briefed individual support plan, apply that plan's strategies and the NDIS Code of Conduct for that participant.
  • Represent Sports 4 All and 4titude professionally with schools, sporting bodies and community partners.

Safety, safeguarding and compliance

  • Follow 4titude's WHS, incident reporting, safeguarding and risk management procedures at all times.
  • Uphold the NSW Child Safe Standards and 4titude's obligations under the reportable conduct scheme when working with children.
  • Escalate concerns, incidents or behaviours of concern promptly to the session lead or line manager.

Team, culture and development

  • Contribute to a positive, high-energy team culture consistent with 4titude's values.
  • Attend pre-program briefings and debriefs, and support new or casual team members during induction and shadow shifts.
  • Contribute ideas for expanding sport offerings into new sports and settings as the program grows.

Other duties

  • Assist with set-up and pack-down of equipment and venues.
  • Contribute to attendance records, incident forms and session documentation.
  • Any other reasonable duties as directed.

Essential requirements

  • NDIS Worker Screening Check (State-based)
  • NDIS Worker Orientation Module
  • Working with Children Check (WWCC)
  • Current Police Check, as applicable

Qualifications

A relevant sport coaching qualification, sport and recreation qualification, or proven coaching/facilitation experience (or willingness to obtain one). Certificate III in Individual Support is desirable, not essential, reflecting this role's coaching-first focus.

Essential skills or experience

  • High-energy, confident group facilitation and coaching. You're comfortable leading a class or club-sized group.
  • Ability to bring a program to life: run activities with enthusiasm, humour and pace, and get everyone involved.
  • Understanding of inclusive sport principles and how to adapt activities for participants of different abilities.
  • Clear, calm communication and teamwork with school staff, club partners and fellow Officers.

Desirable skills or experience

  • Specific coaching qualifications or experience in one or more sports.
  • Current First Aid certificate.
  • Completion of, or willingness to complete, the Accessibility Champions Course (Disability Sports Australia) or equivalent inclusive-coaching training.
  • Experience or awareness of disability inclusion in mainstream sport settings.

Supervisory responsibilities

This role has no direct reports. An Officer may be asked to lead a station or small group within a larger clinic, or support the induction of new casual staff.

Other conditions

Engagement
Casual engagement, no guaranteed hours. Availability required during school terms for clinics and around gala/carnival dates. Travel between venues; reliable transport preferred.
Budget and financial
Handling petty cash or equipment/entry fees as directed. Responsible care of program equipment.
Organisational relationships
Works closely with the Director, Sport & Recreation, and other Sports Inclusion Officers. Interacts with school and club partners, the Safeguarding Lead, and Recreation/Social Inclusion staff as required, without holding a shared caseload with either.

Alignment to sector standards

Core and specialist capabilities

As set out in the NDIS Workforce Capability Framework (NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission) for General Support Work, applied proportionately to this role's coaching-first function: uphold participants' rights, communicate effectively, build trusted relationships, work collaboratively, and respond to participants' Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, culturally and linguistically diverse, and LGBTIQA+ identities. Where a specific participant's individual plan requires it: apply positive behaviour support strategies, medication or mealtime plans as briefed for that participant only.

NDIS Workforce Capability Framework

The core capabilities above are drawn from the Framework published by the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission, applied proportionately given this role's coaching-first function rather than an individual support function (workforcecapability.ndiscommission.gov.au).

Australian Sports Commission inclusive delivery principles

The ASC's guidance on coaching people with disability emphasises an individualised approach (ask the participant and their family what they need rather than defaulting to a separate program), making programs genuinely accessible (information and welcome, not just the venue), and working collaboratively with disability sport providers, special schools and disability advocacy groups (ausport.gov.au). Sports Inclusion Officers are expected to work in that spirit in every clinic and gala.

Accessibility Champions Course

Delivered through Disability Sports Australia and referenced by the Australian Sports Commission as a coaching pathway, this is a desirable credential for this role and a candidate for 4titude-funded professional development once appointed.
